Treating the spirit is the foundation that acupuncture is grounded upon. There are five facets of the spirit which create the whole of our consciousness, Yi, Shen, Po, Zhi, Hun.
The Yi is our ability to think, pontificate, contemplate, understand, emphasize. The Yi enables us to relate to circumstances and others in the world. The Shen is consciousness, awareness. It is the quality of our consciousness that enables us to comprehend. The knowing of who we are, the part of awareness that allows us to recognize life, in ourselves and around us. Po is the part of awareness that acknowledges what is divine and what is mundane.
Connecting spirit to heaven so that we can see what is most precious amongst the most mundane.
Zhi is our will, that which compels us to move forward in life to manifest our deepest wishes and aspirations. The Hun is the strategist, the goal setter, that facilitates the manifestation of our deepest wishes and aspirations. The relationship between the Zhi and the Hun is often analogized to a bow and arrow. Where the Zhi is the bow, and the Hun is the arrow. Then as the bow is drawn, aim is taken, the arrow then takes flight. The Hun is propelled by the Zhi. Each of these five spirits are associated to a physical part of the body. The Yi is connected to the pancreas. Shen is associated to the heart. Po is related to the lungs. Zhi is associated to the kidneys. Hun is associated to the liver.
These organs are the bridge that allow for the expression of spirit to manifest into the physical world. For spirit to manifest in the physical world there needs to be a medium. Just as our body is the vehicle for the soul to navigate through life, these organs are the carriers for our aspects of awareness that give us the ability to understand and react to life. Regular acupuncture treatments can immensely support the spirit. The physical embodiment of these five spirits make them accessible via the mind/body connection.
When these five are in balance, life is full of ease and grace. The stresses in life, are not so stressful. Decision making is effortless and gratifying. A deep sense of fulfillment permeates our day to day routine, giving profound affirmation to the direction of your path in life.
